The Shops at Kukuiʻula reopened after Hurricane Lowell with a banner saying some stores and restaurants were on modified hours. The banner links to a dedicated page that tells visitors closing times may vary. We compared that page with the schedules the restaurants post on their own websites. For most of the places people go for dinner, the two schedules are the same.
That matters because the oceanfront side of Poipu is in a different situation. As of a field visit on September 30, The Beach House on Lawai Road was boarded up and closed until further notice. This October, much of the South Shore's evening dining has moved inland, up Poipu Road to Palm Court.
The center's modified-hours page lists current hours for more than thirty tenants. We checked the restaurants against their own websites.
| Restaurant | Center's modified-hours page | Restaurant's own posted schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi | 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. | Dinner 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. daily |
| Scotty Browns Hawaii | 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. | 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. daily |
| Kauai Diner Koloa | 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. | 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily |
| Table at Poipu | 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. | 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday |
| Bubba Burgers | 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. | 10:30 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday |
| Savage Shrimp | 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. | Lunch and dinner split most days, with dinner closing between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Monday runs straight from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. |
Savage Shrimp is the only restaurant here with a measurable cut. Its center listing ends dinner at 7 p.m. every day, while its own site shows 7:15 p.m. on Thursdays and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The other five restaurants match.
The table also shows one gap that affects Sunday plans. Table at Poipu and Bubba Burgers both list Sunday as a closed day on their own sites. The center's list gives only a daily range for each of them. The center's own tenant profiles are inconsistent too. The profile for Eating House 1849 says 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the one for Scotty Browns Hawaii says 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. The modified-hours page agrees with the restaurants' own websites, so it is the more reliable of the center's two sources.
During a normal fall, a South Shore dinner could just as easily mean the oceanfront on Lawai Road or the resort restaurants along Poipu Beach. Here is where those places stood at last report:
Other places on the coast are open. Beat of Hawaii found Brennecke's Beach Broiler open and Poipu Beach busy. Koʻa Kea's October 9 update says Red Salt is serving breakfast and dinner daily. The Grand Hyatt's September 15 update had Seaview Terrace open for dinner and cocktails and Tidepools slated to reopen September 27. Island-wide, Hawaiʻi Public Radio reported on September 23 that data from cocowire.com showed 70% of Kauaʻi's eateries open.
Still, the oceanfront restaurants are reopening one property at a time, and you need to check each one before you go. The Shops at Kukuiʻula is the only spot on the South Shore where several kitchens, a pharmacy and a weekly market all run on known hours in one place.
Because the hours held, you can plan a whole evening around them. Using the center's current list, a weeknight looks like this:
Merriman's, a longtime anchor at the center, is not on the modified-hours page. The Coconut Wireless directory lists it with a 4:30 p.m. opening, but that is a directory listing and not a confirmed post-storm status. Call ahead.
Most of the restaurants kept their schedules, and so did the center's weekly programs. Its events page lists:
Soon after a "We're open!" post welcoming guests back, the center put the Culinary Market back on. Its Instagram post about the market said it was "grateful to welcome our community back," and added live music by John Rivera from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. that Wednesday. On Saturday, September 26, the center held a line-dancing night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with The John Rivera Collective, promoted as a gathering "after a lot to navigate lately." The center's follow-up post described a full moon, no rain and "plenty of breeze."
The fall calendar adds to the weekly schedule rather than replacing it, and two of the dates sit right on top of the regular programs. Today is Monday, October 12, so the next three weeks look like this:
Wednesday, October 21. The Great Pumpkin Giveaway runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Palm Court as part of Harvest Festival 2026. The center says the pumpkins are grown in Hawaiʻi by Aloun Farms, with one per person while supplies last. Pumpkin painting is at OluKai. Because it is a Wednesday, the giveaway overlaps the last two hours of the Culinary Market.
Friday, October 23. ʻOhana Movie Night shows Toy Story 5 in Palm Court from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The film starts at sunset, weather permitting.
Friday, October 30. Trunk or Treat runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the south-side parking lot near Bubba Burgers. If you are parking for dinner that night, plan on that lot being in use.
Both special Fridays fall on Kanikapila nights. The center has not said how the music and the movie or Halloween events will share the evening, so check with the center before you plan around both.
A few items on the center's own pages don't agree with each other. Here is what is still unsettled:
The center's general advice, which appears on its hours page, is to check directly with individual stores and restaurants. For closures elsewhere on Kauaʻi, HPR points to openkauai.org and cocowire.com, both of which track businesses as open, partially open or closed.
Brenda has spent more than three decades on the South Shore, from Palm Court evenings to Poipu Road traffic, and she is always glad to talk about it with neighbors. When you're ready for a private Poipu market consultation, reach out to Brenda Crawford.
